FORMER first lady Monica Geingos has dismissed allegations of motivating the Presidency to appoint minister of health and social service Esperance Luvindao for her personal gains.
A circulating WhatsApp message alleges that former president Nangolo Mbumba lobbied for Luvindao’s appointment, even though he doesn’t know her personally.
The message also claims that Geingos influenced Luvindao’s appointment.
“Luvindao is alleged to be a close associate (‘proxy’)of the former First Lady and Geingos has ties to Shapwa Kanyama, a well-known businessman involved in the Ministry of Health and Social Service’s procurement.
“Kanyama is reportedly a business partner of the former first lady’s eldest child, raising concerns about potential conflicts of interest,” the message states.
Geingos refuted any involvement, stating that she only became aware of Luvindao’s appointment when it was publicly announced.
“I have never spoken to any leader regarding the appointment of any individual, nor have I directly or indirectly recommended or influenced any ministerial appointment.
“The suggestion that I would influence appointments for personal gain is patently malicious, offensive, and contrary to what I stand for,” she stated.
Geingos further added that “the appointment of ministers is the prerogative of the president and I am surprised that there is an attempt to blame some of us who are peripheral to that process.”
