Give us two weeks – Lukato

PROMISES … National Democratic Party (NDP) leader Martin Lukato says once elected, his party would hold the government accountable and ensure transperancy.

National Democratic Party leader Martin Lukato has requested two weeks from parliament to thoroughly study the budget and make an informed decision.

“The people of Namibia deserve the best, and we need to appreciate the budget, which speaks to the masses,” he says.

Lukato was reacting to the N$106.3-billion 2025/26 national budget tabled in parliament on Thursday.

Finance and social grants management minister Ericah Shafudah said the budget represents an increase of N$6.2 billion from last year’s government spending of N$100.1 billion.

Affirmative Repositioning leader Job Amupanda has also requested the budget documents to study them overnight in preparation for Tuesday.

National Assembly speaker Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila argued that members of parliament should avoid delaying the discussion of the appropriate bill as this may delay much needed service delivery to the masses if funds are not released on time.

The budget discussion has been postponed to Tuesday.
