Global Cleantech Innovation Programme aims to foster green entrepreneurship in Namibia

The Global Cleantech Innovation Programme (GCIP) launched on 25 January is to be implemented by the Environmental Investment Fund of Namibia (EIF).
GCIP Namibia will focus on identifying and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in Namibia that focus on addressing environmental challenges.
The programme will have a budget of over N$77.9 million contributed by the Global Environmental Facility as well as the Namibian government and other stakeholders.
It aims to support at least 60 small and medium enterprises and startups, with a focus on those lead by women, as well as providing tools, skills and mentorship.
EIF spokesperson Romeo Muyunda lauds the programme as: “a bold step towards accelerating clean technology innovation and entrepreneurship.”
The programme will emphasise enterprises that propose solutions in energy efficiency, renewable energy, water efficiency, waste beneficiation, and green buildings.
“With Namibia positioning itself as a regional hub for clean technologies, GCIP Namibia stands as a testament to the country’s commitment to green growth and sustainability. Under the leadership of EIF, the programme is set to unlock innovative solutions that will drive the green economy forward and create lasting socio-economic impact,” he says.
