Government cleaner accused of graft

A CLEANER at the Ministry of Works, Dorothea Ngozu (47), is being accused of subletting her Government home in Swakopmund to more than 20 people.

She was arrested on Thursday and appeared in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court on a charge of contravening the Anti-corruption Act.After an investigation, the Police arrived at the Government house allocated to Ngozu and allegedly found 23 people living there. She had allegedly rented out the four bedrooms, the living room, the garage and an outside room for N$700 per month per room.Entire families were living in some rooms, and some of them were foreigners.Ngozu allegedly earned an extra income of nearly N$5 000 from this illegal business.She appeared before Magistrate Hannelie Prinsloo, who granted her bail of N$2 000, which she paid on Monday after spending the weekend in Police custody. The case was postponed until February 10 2010 for further investigation.The occupants of the house were ordered to vacate the home immediately and find other accommodation.
