Governor gives school pep-talk

KHOMAS governor Samuel Nuuyoma yesterday visited the Highline Secondary School in Windhoek where pupils have been locked out for persistent lateness.

It was his second visit to the school in less than four days. Nuuyoma told the pupils that their education was in their own hands and that they should not disrespect their teachers. According to him their behaviour reflected a lack of discipline at home and school. One pupil charged that teachers also arrive at work latae. On Friday last week, 218 pupils were late but yesterday the number had dropped to 101 pupils.Yesterday the last five pupils arrived exactly at 07h30. Classes start at 07h10 but some teachers only arrived 10 minutes later.A head of department at the school, who refused to give her name, said the parents of the children who were sent home on Friday turned up later, adding that it was not much of a bother because the governor got involved in the matter. ‘The school is going to suspend the pupils individually as from today on, so this matter can be solved quickly. The sooner they bring their parents back to school with them, the fewer the suspension days,’ the HoD said.
