Govt cautions Namibians in UK over riots

The government has cautioned Namibians in the United Kingdom (UK) to keep indoors amid ongoing riots and unrest in several cities.

In an urgent notice, the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation advised Namibians in the UK and those planning to travel there to exercise extreme caution and avoid areas where protests and riots are taking place.

“Anti-immigrant rioters have engaged in looting, arson, and clashes with police in cities including London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Sunderland, Manchester, Hull and Bristol,” said the ministry’s acting executive director, ambassador Sabine Böhlke-Möller, on Wednesday afternoon.

She further advised Namibians in affected areas to avoid going out unless absolutely necessary. “Keep away from large gatherings and demonstrations, be vigilant and aware of your surroundings at all times, stay informed of the latest developments by monitoring local media, and follow the instructions of local authorities and police.”
