Govt Website Disgrace

Govt Website Disgrace

I AM studying e-commerce in South Africa and would like to air my opinion to the people of Namibia, in fact to the Government of Namibia.

Please don’t publish my name for fear of reprisals. As a Namibian I was ashamed to learn from other SADC countries that the information that the Namibian Government has placed on the Internet for the world to know about Namibia is pathetic. We were doing an assignment on investment and had to visit websites for different Ministries of Trade in the SADC region. The website for the South African government was not too bad compared to that of Namibia, but it also has outdated information because it still indicates Zuma is the Vice President of South Africa. Then we looked at the Botswana government’s website. It is really impressive. All the information is properly arranged and it could attract investments. It is user-friendly and properly designed. As a group we had to look for the Ministry of Trade of Namibia. It is really shocking to see how somebody has just pasted rough information here and there and call it a website for the Government of Namibia.First of all, it has so much outdated information and secondly it is not user-friendly.It is indicated that the office of the Prime Minister is responsible for the Government’s website.I would like to urge the Prime Minister to visit the website of the Botswana government and compare it with ours and find out for himself where the shortcomings are.My fellow classmates could not believe it – they feel that it is either an indication of neglect of duties or sheer laziness. It really reflects badly on us and something should be done as a matter of urgency.Let us remember that a website can only do two things to the owner – promote him/her or tarnish his/her image.E-Commerce Student Cape TownAs a Namibian I was ashamed to learn from other SADC countries that the information that the Namibian Government has placed on the Internet for the world to know about Namibia is pathetic. It really reflects badly on us and something should be done as a matter of urgency.Let us remember that a website can only do two things to the owner – promote him/her or tarnish his/her image.E-Commerce Student Cape Town
