Govt’s failure to address hunger reduces Namibians to ‘funeral food collectors’ – Swartbooi

Bernadus Swartbooi

Landless People’s Movement (LPM) leader Bernadus Swartbooi says the government’s failure to address hunger has left some citizens with no choice but to attend funerals to collect food.

He was speaking at the party’s fourth national convention in Windhoek on Saturday.

“Our society has turned into funeral food eaters – they become churchgoers and even sing the funeral songs well and are well dressed. They strategically position themselves just for a meal,” Swartbooi said.

He said people inform each other of the next funeral for the chance to go and collect food.

‘Democracy perfectionism’ has subjected society to this situation, Swartbooi said.
