PRESIDENT Donald Trump is close to impeachment because of specific wrong-doings, and this is being seen more and more all over the world where nations get frustrated with corruption within governments, and pressing those presidents and prime ministers to resign. It will happen more and more, and Africa is not to be spared.
Corruption has become a cancer as it is stealing taxpayers’ money for its own gain.
President Hage Geingob is not in control of his own cabinet, and testimony of this is the fishrot saga. A president who does not know what his ministers are doing does not deserve to be a president. Compare this to a general of some armed forces, where the troops go to war, and the general does not know about it. This is pathetic, to say the least.
Fishrot came as a bang for Namibia, although corruption is nothing new to us.
Corruption started in the early 1990s already, where farms were dished out to ministers as liberation struggle compensation. Then N$660 million of the GIPF’s money got lost, and many elites with ties to former presidents are implicated. We can furthermore mention Kora, the SME Bank, former minister Shanghala’s overseas genocide lawyers, and many more. No accountability whatsoever.
Imagine, the president preached that 2019 was to be the year of accountability. Mr President, you should be held accountable for all the corruption within your administration.
The purchases of farms, lodges, guest houses and luxury houses by the Namibian Defence Force and the Namibian Intelligence Service were never investigated by you, Mr President. And you propagated that you were not informed about those purchases. Both these institutions resort under the direct jurisdiction of the Office of the President, and our president does not know anything at all! That alone is poor administration, keeping in mind all the advisers you employed to assist your administration. What happened recently with the fishrot scandal is further testimony that you are not even aware of what is happening in your own administration. Or are you aware, and turning a blind eye?
Namibia just had our presidential and National Assembly elections and, Mr President, you were very very lucky to still be in the seat of power for the next five years. But rest assured, you have strong opposition parties watching your movements and decisions now, and more than two million Namibians too.
You will be in the hot seat day after day, and more and more issues of corruption will surface, to which you will have to give answers. The whistleblowers will surface too, and spread the facts of all corrupt issues and operations of the Swapo government since 1989.
The time for flying high is over, Mr President, and keep impeachment in mind. What is happening with Donald Trump can happen here too, and anywhere in the world. The days of eating the cake alone are gone forever. The nation, and especially the poor, are watching you.
