Harambee II achieves 94% of targets in first quarter

SHELLEYGAN PETERSEN and CHARMAINE NGATJIHEUETHE government has implemented 94% of the activities that were planned under the second Harambee Prosperity Plan (HPP) during the first quarter of the 2021/22 financial year.

This was revealed by the presidential advisor on constitutional affairs and private sector interface, Inge Zaamwani-Kamwi, during the launch of the progress report of the HPP II implementation report.

Zaamwani said the achievements in the first quarter are a start to the planting season for quarter two, with plans in place for those projects to be implemented.

The launch of the progress report coincided with president Hage Geingob’s 80th birthday.

At the same event, the economic advisor to the president, James Mnyupe, informed Geingob about the feasibility of the proposed green hydrogen project and ammonia as a transformative strategy in the energy industry aimed at solving Namibia’s future energy needs.

The presidency has also set up a green hydrogen council, which will identify activities and projects to be exploited under the proposed project.

Mnyupe said the proposed project would change the lives of Namibians, especially in the //Kharas region.

To show what the project can yield, a young man who believes in the project, Tuhafeni Hamundjebo handed over a “NamKanda” hoodie to Geingob. With proceeds from his NamKanda clothing line, Hamundjebo aims to fund students who believe in green hydrogen.

Geingob called on the international community, especially Africans, to partner with Namibia on the green hydrogen and ammonia project.

Geingob said the partnerships should be focussed on addressing issues such as poverty and developing Namibia as it looks to clean energy.

The president said the idea is to craft a country that future Namibians can be proud of as the government maintains it will deliver on the promises made in the second Harambee Prosperity Plan II.
