A follow-up road safety operation was conducted by the Roads Authority, the Namibian Police and other stakeholders at Mariental on Friday.

The operation followed the official launch of the 2024-2025 Festive Road Safety Campaign on 2 December 2024, and focused on adherence to traffic regulations, reducing road accidents and encouraging responsible driving practices.

Namibian Police Hardap commander deputy commissioner John Mwatongwe provided a brief overview of the operation during a recent interview with Nampa.

“We gathered here to ensure that the public adheres to road safety rules and to ensure that the traffic operation runs smoothly,” Mwatongwe said.

Roads Authority’s executive officer of transportation Sidney Boois encouraged road users to comply with the traffic regulations. He also emphasised the importance of road safety as holidaymakers return home and prepare for the reopening of schools.

“There is a high traffic volume during this time, as people are returning from the holidays, and we are here to ensure that road users comply with traffic rules,” Boois said.

The event saw participation from key stakeholders, including the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund, the National Road Safety Council, the Hardap Regional Safety Forum, and members of the public.
