Harry Simon fight postponed

Former two-time middleweight world champion Harry Simon’s ‘world title’ fight which was penciled in for the end of this month has been postponed.

Simon said in a media statement yesterday that the fight, against an unnamed opponent for the World Boxing Union and International Boxing Federation international titles, was put-off indefinitely “due to a lack of sponsorship”.

According to Simon, he had been promised financial backing by various unspecified companies and institutions towards the staging of the event, at Kuisebmund Stadium in Walvis Bay, before the end of December, however this has not materialised.

He added that he had been sponsored to be trained in South Africa by a top official who still believes in his boxing ability, but had to put the training on hold after it emerged that no substantive sponsors had been secured.

Simon, Namibia’s first world champion, is still undefeated after 29 fights, amassed during an interrupted two-decade long career.

“Harry Simon and his management team are currently busy seeking sponsorships for the fight to materialise early next year,” said the statement.
