I have enrolled for piano lessons – outgoing Cabinet secretary Simataa

OUTGOING secretary to the Cabinet George Simataa says he has enrolled for piano lessons to keep himself busy when he retires from public office.

Although new Cabinet ministers were announced at State House by president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on Saturday, Simataa’s replacement will be announced at a later stage.

He addressed the new ministers at State House, informing them of their first scheduled meeting.

During a farewell ceremony held in his honour at the Office of the Prime Minister on Thursday, he said he is excited to embark on a new chapter of retirement, and is looking forward to new hobbies and travelling.

“I have enrolled for piano lessons, starting from 1 April, as a priority hobby. I am eager to explore new interests and spend more time with my family,” he said.

Simataa joined the public service on 1 December 1979. He said it has been a privilege to work alongside “talented and dedicated professionals” and that he is proud of what has been achieved.

He urged staff members to support his successor.

Simataa said for a smooth transition and the spirit of good governance he has prepared an extensive 20-page document for his successor.

He expressed gratitude to former prime minister Saara Kuuongelwa-Amadhila for “the wonderful working relationship” they shared for the past 10 years and wished her well in her new political career.

It is not clear when his position will be filled.
