Hazel Creations Launches Reusable Faux Locs

Anna-Liisa Hamunyela, also known as Hazel, has come up with a new product that is set to change the way you do your faux locs. The founder of Hazel Creations and wigmaker launched custom handmade reusable faux locs last Thursday, a feat that local hairdressers haven’t quite mastered yet.

Hazel Creations, well-known for their wigs ranging from Brazilian to braided and faux locs, has already garnered an extensive collection of clients and hairdos.

Born at Tsumeb, Hamunyela was raised by a single teen mother. Eventually, she was left behind as her mother went to find employment in Windhoek. But Hamunyela was in the good hands of her grandmother, Aletta Nangombe Samuel, as well as four cousins.

There, she unlocked her love for hair and after moving to Windhoek, her mom was quite surprised at her talent for hairdressing. Years later, after the struggle and strife of living in the hostel and braiding friends’ hair, she completed her honours degree in industrial psychology, but due to a lack of jobs, Hamunyela opted to pay her bills through braiding. And she hasn’t looked back.

Because of the growth of the hair industry, especially from around 2014, Hamunyela was exposed to wigs and eventually taught herself by watching tutorials on the internet and even attempted to make her own until she mastered it. In 2017, Hamunyela said she created her first faux loc wig, and now she has reached even bigger heights.

“I developed a new product and wanted to have an official launch for it,” Hamunyela told The Weekender before the launch. Then, she wasn’t too keen on sharing information about it, before the copyright process was sealed. But now it is.

Describing the new custom reusable faux locs as “a product to make women’s lives easier”, the launch was certainly a glamorous affair as women fawned over a new way to keep their hair looking good, minus the six-hour or more waiting period. Instead, the faux locs can now be installed in less than three hours depending on the length and style of your choice.

Hamunyela has also developed a new technique to allow those with faux locs to safely remove their dos, and reuse and install the extensions in a way that keeps the hair intact. The loc extension, Hamunyela said during the demonstration, would be set in a certain way which will keep not only the tips in place, but act as a reusable product for up to three installations.

Depending on the length of your hair, the technique allows you to create a hook and this will make the process easier.

There’s no doubt that Hamunyela already has plenty of client approvals, including local marketing specialist Elizette Nujoma. “I’m very picky about my hair and who touches it. Hazel Creations is my hair confidante!”

There are about seven colours available including black, honey, auburn and blonde, and you can get them at about 12 to 40-inches long. However, you can only get the locs by ordering and this will take about five to 14 working days. Get a peek of the technique by visiting Hamunyela’s YouTube page at ‘Hazel Creations Namibia’.
