Heroes Day preparations underway at Otjiwarongo

PREPARATIONS for the 2019 Heroes’ Day commemorations slated for 26 August in Otjiwarongo are said to be in full swing.

The ministry of information on Friday announced that the commemorations are set for Otjiwarongo at Paresis Stadium in Otjozondjupa region and that the government will provide transport to members of the public in the region to and from the stadium on that day.

“The public is urged to come in numbers and commemorate the Heroes Day,” the statement released by the ministry reads.

Heroes Day is a national public holiday which commemorates the Namibian War of Independence which began on 26 August 1966 at Omugulugwombashe.

The ministry also cautioned the public about the use of drones at the event urging drone operators to get written authorisation from the Namibia Civil Aviation Authority.
