The Namibia Airports Company (NAC) has completed the aerodrome certification for Hosea Kutako International Airport (HKIA) and Walvis Bay International Airport after they were found in compliance with regulations.
According to a statement issued by NAC spokesperson Dan Kamati, the Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) issued the aerodrome certificates last week in accordance with the Namibia Civil Aviation Regulations (NAMCARs) Part 139.
The NCAA states that the aerodrome certification process involving public consultation, evaluation of the aerodrome manual, on-site verification of facilities and equipment, as well as all findings issued and the corrective action plans submitted and implemented, was successfully completed and that the certificates are valid until 5 December 2025.
“We are pleased to receive these certificates and will intensify efforts, together with stakeholders, to enhance customer experience pegged to safety and security at our airports,” says NAC chief executive Bisey /Uirab.
Eros Airport in Windhoek and the Andimba Toivo Ya Toivo Airport at Ondangwa are also undergoing the aerodrome licensing process, with their interim licences due for mid-2024,” Kamati says.
Airport certification is important as it provides the airport and aircraft operators with documented proof that the facilities they operate or use are safe.
“It is also an important risk management element that ensures continued safety, regularity and efficiency of aircraft operations at aerodromes, and also ensures the aerodrome is in compliance with the relevant International Civil Aviation Organisation Standards and recommended practices and civil aviation regulations,” the NAC spokesperson says.
He says the NAC is committed to improving its airport infrastructure to support the government’s national development initiatives and harness the natural resources brought about by the recent oil and gas discoveries together with green hydrogen initiatives. – email: matthew@namibian.com.na
