HUNDREDS of farmers and aspiring farmers gathered at Oluno in the Oshana region on Saturday to gain knowledge on growing potatoes.
Titled ‘Namibia must feed itself’, the ongoing training session was facilitated by Suncrest Farming Solutions and will be held across all regions of the country.
The training is aimed at equipping citizens with the agricultural knowledge on how the food they consume is produced.
Speaking to The Namibian yesterday, Suncrest Farming Solutions director Sidney Maphosa said farmers in the country should learn how to grow their own food in order for the country to become self-reliant.
“We have been conducting free farming training on how to grow various crops, because our farmers are not producing. We have received a high turnout and it shows that people are waking up.”
One of the attendees, Fenny Constantine, applauded the initiative, which she said gave her a new perspective on agriculture.
“I now realise that we cannot go without agriculture. It was an educative workshop,” she said.
