Hydrogen summit gets financial boost

The Global Green Hydrogen Summit (GAH2S) has received a financial boost of about N$650 000 from local companies.

The debut summit will take place in Windhoek from 3 to 5 September.

The summit, organised by DMG events, with local partners Vasco Da Gama Energy and the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) as strategic partner, is themed ‘From Ambition to Action: Fuelling Africa’s Green Industrial Revolution’.

It will focus on the role Africa expects to play in the global hydrogen economy.

The sponsors are the Capricorn Group, with N$200 000, the Electricity Control Board with N$150 000, the Environmental Investment Fund of Namibia with N$150 000, the Namibia Green Hydrogen Programme with N$150 000, and the Ministry of Mines and Energy, providing free floorspace.

Speaking at a media briefing in Windhoek yesterday, the NIPDB’s executive strategy and branding director, Margareth Gustavo, said Namibia’s ambitions of becoming the sustainable energy capital of Africa will require collaboration not only between Namibian entities, but also with other countries.

“As an organisation, collaboration is at the core of our operations,” Gustavo said.

Capricorn Group brand and corporate affairs executive Marlize Horn said Namibia has vast resources and it is the shared responsibility for everyone to actively participate in and facilitate the transition to a low-carbon and climate-resilient economy for future generations.

“We are proud to be part of this process where we can showcase the potential that Namibia has and to bring together the government and private sector,” she said.

Environmental Investment Fund of Namibia corporate secretary of legal and compliance Carol-Lee Platt said their company is all about investing and promoting programmes that ensure not just the sustainable development of Namibia, but boosting livelihoods and economic development.
