The inherent pursuit of self-interest, as famously expressed by Adam Smith, cautions us against assuming the inherent benevolence of businesses: “It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest.”
Therefore, it becomes crucial to strike a delicate balance, harnessing the strategic capabilities of the private sector while ensuring the welfare and equitable distribution of resources.
