I have no intention of returningto Swapo – Mukwiilongo

Epafras Mukwiilongo

Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) president Epafras Mukwiilongo says he is still his party’s commander-in-chief and has no intention of returning to Swapo.

He said this after being seen in a video clip in conversation with president-elect Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah after a church service at Onamutai Anglican Church on Sunday.

In the video, which is widely circulating on social media, Nandi-Ndaitwah is pleading with Mukwiilongo to return to Swapo.

The president-elect is Mukwiilongo’s maternal aunt.

“This man is my son, he is my family, and I do not even know why he chose to form his own party and leave Swapo. Please come back home to your mother’s party, Swapo, my son.

“Please come back home,” Nandi-Ndaitwah said.

Mukwiilongo yesterday told The Namibian he has no intention of returning to Swapo despite his aunt being the party’s president.

“I have no plans to go back to Swapo at all. The NEFF will always be my home, come rain or shine. I will never abandon my party that I formed through sweat and hard work, never.

“I clearly told Nandi-Ndaitwah that family does not mean we have to agree on one thing always, no. We can be family and still differ on many things,” he said.

Mukwiilongo said he accompanied Nandi-Ndaitwah and her husband, Denga Ndaitwah, to Onamutai Anglican Church because he was entrusted to deliver a speech on behalf of the family.

“I did not go to church to buy faces or to convince Nandi-Ndaitwah to accept me back in Swapo. I went there as family and I delivered a speech on behalf of the family, because we are related.

“There’s no bad blood between me and Nandi-Ndaitwah, I respect her a lot, and I’m happy for her to be elected as the president of Namibia.

“She will always remain my respectful aunt, despite our political party differences. I wish her all the best as she takes over the reigns of the Presidency,” he said.

Mukwiilongo said he has instructed the party’s vice president, Kalimbo Iipumbu, to represent the party in the parliament as Iipumbu is a good administrator.

He said he (Mukwiilongo) will mobilise new party members and keep the party running “on the ground”.

The NEFF managed to secure only one seat in the parliament in last year’s elections.
