Namibian opthamologist Helena Ndume says she was never approached for the health minister position, which was given to Esperance Luvindao.
This is contrary to sources who claim Ndume turned down the position.
Ndume told The Namibian yesterday that any questions should be addressed to the appointing powers.
“I do not have any further comments on that,” she said.
President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has appointed Luvindao as the new minister of health and social services on Saturday.
Over the 25 years that Ndume has worked as a humanitarian ophthalmologist, she has successfully provided essential eye care to those in need.
She has also built a partnership with Surgical Eye Expeditions International, a non-profit humanitarian organisation in California, United States, which has helped restore the sight of over 35 million people through donors and volunteer medical teams.
Ndume has received a number of awards throughout her medical career, the first of which was the Lions International award, in recognition of her efforts in the Lions Operation BrightSight project in South Africa in 1999.
