THE Namibian Economic Freedom Fighters political party has distanced itself from views expressed by its national coordinator Kalimbo Iipumbu to this week.
According to commissar for policy research and political education Abraham Ndumbu, the party’s position regarding the Supreme Court case remains the same as that of the other partner political parties and the independent candidate.
“The next party position will be determined by NEFF (Namibian Economic Freedom Fighters) leadership and will be made public soon after the court ruling,” Ndumbu told .
According to NEFF leadership, the content in this newspaper is more of a ‘personal’ expression by Iipumbu.
NEFF’s president, Epafras Mukwiilongo, commissar of administration, Festus Shaduva and Ndumbu, attended the meeting that was held on Wednesday in Oshakati.
According to Ndumbu, consultation with members in the top leadership was also done in retracting Iipumbu’s views.
In a recent interview with , Iipumbu urged parties involved in the Supreme Court case that will be heard tomorrow (Friday) not to engage in acts that might destabilise the country if the court ruling does not go in their favour.
He said Namibia is in economic crises and demonstrations will affect the country badly. “We are known as the country of peace and stability all over the world and cannot tarnish that,” Iipumbu said during that interview.
Iipumbu, in the same interview, said no matter the outcome of the court ruling, people should not engage in acts that can destabilise the nation.
He also advised Panduleni Itula, Affirmative Repositioning and Swapo Party to unite and come to the drawing board to discuss the future, as they all belong to the same party.
NEFF’s Mukwiilongo is one of the applicants of an election case together with independent candidate Itula, Henk Mudge of Republican Party, Ignatius Shixwameni of All People’s Party and Mike Kavekotora of Rally for Democracy and Progress.
The applicants are asking the court to set aside the results of the presidential election held on 27 November 2019 and to order that a fresh presidential election be held.
According to the poll results announced on 30 November, president Geingob won 56,3% of the votes cast while Itula came second with 29,4%.
