Boy, 3, saves brother from pond GERMISTON – He is only three years old, but already he is a hero – especially in the eyes of his family after he saved his baby brother from a fishpond.

Ekurhuleni emergency services congratulated Zachery Tebbutt, 3, at his preschool in Germiston, praising him for his courage. Zachery and 16-month-old Richard’s mother Elainne said the family was having a braai with friends on February 17.”As children are, the two went off and played by themselves.”The fishpond is about 1m deep and has a bridge. The boys were presumably playing on the bridge when Richard fell off.”Zachery told us he tried to pull Richard from the water himself. When he could not manage, he ran to the braai fire and shouted that someone should come help as his brother was drowning.”No one paid immediate attention and Zachery ran back, kept calling for help and tried pulling his brother from the water.By the time one of the grown-ups realised something was wrong, Zachery had almost completely pulled Richard from the water. The baby was not breathing and first aid had to be performed. But Richard has made a full recovery.Their grandfather gave Zachery a big medal, one he apparently bought himself. But on Tuesday, Zachery was presented with Reggie the rhino, a toy and the mascot of the emergency services, as well as a trophy. This trophy, said Zachery with pride, showed that he was a hero.* Liz Taylor’s 75th birthday bash HENDERSON, NEVADA – Elizabeth Taylor arrived fashionably late to her 75th birthday party decked out in diamonds and fur.The Hollywood icon came down the red carpet at a Las Vegas-area resort in a wheelchair on Tuesday night. She was escorted by her 52-year-old son, Christopher Wilding, who shares the same birthday.Taylor smiled and batted her trademark violet eyes as photographers sang Happy Birthday to her. When asked about the secret to her longevity, she quipped: “Hangin’ in.”Guests including Debbie Reynolds, her daughter, Carrie Fisher, magicians Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn, and model Kathy Ireland turned out for the private party at the Medici Cafe and Terrace at the Ritz-Carlton, Lake Las Vegas. Both women were married at separate times to Eddie Fisher.Beeld-Sapa-AFPZachery and 16-month-old Richard’s mother Elainne said the family was having a braai with friends on February 17.”As children are, the two went off and played by themselves.”The fishpond is about 1m deep and has a bridge. Both women were married at separate times to Eddie Fisher.Beeld-Sapa-AFP
