Independence Day celebrations cancelled at stadium, moved to State House

THE Ministry of Information and Communication Technology’s executive director, Audrin Mathe, has announced that the Independence Day celebrations and inauguration of the first woman president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah have been moved from the Independence Stadium to State House.

There will be no public event held at the Independence Stadium as planned.

“This is due to extreme weather conditions that are forecast for tomorrow,” Mathe said.

He explained that due to limited space and a high number of international visitors including
heads of state, the public will not be able to physically attend the 35th Independence celebrations and inauguration as anticipated.

“However, the public is urged to observe these historic events through the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation’s television and radio services, the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology’s social media platforms and those of other media houses.

“The government would like to extend its sincere apology for the inconvenience this may cause. Further updates will be shared in due course,” Mathe said.
