Indongo’s son accuses staff of trying to steal N$7 000 blanket

FOUND … Indongo’s son has accused staff of at- tempting to steal his father’s blanket.

Businessman Frans Indongo’s son Engelbert is accusing three Frans Indongo Group staff members of attempting to steal an expensive blanket and other items belonging to his father.

Engelbert last week said the involved employees travelled from Windhoek to Oshakati to clean offices at a property belonging to Frans at Oneshila at Oshakati.

This was despite staff already being assigned to this task, Engelbert said.

“They cleaned and then entered my father’s room without permission. We caught them with his expensive blanket, 300 photos and eight awards.

“They claimed to have been sent by a trustee to clean the offices. But who authorised them to enter my father’s room and take his belongings?” Engelbert asked.

He claimed the cleaners attempted to steal his father’s “expensive” blanket worth N$7 000.

The incident took place on 8 July, he said.

Engelbert said one of the cleaners told him and his brother they intended to take the blanket to a dry cleaner.

Upon discovering his father’s blanket in the car, he said he reported the matter to the local police station and opened a case of theft and trespassing against the involved employees.

“Upon arrival, the police interviewed the employees and requested them to go back to the room together. It was indicated that some items, including photos that used to be displayed on the wall, were taken off and burnt by visitors [the three employees],” he said.

Engelbert said he wants the three employees to be suspended.

He said the Indongo family, after a meeting at Oshakati, also called for the suspension of the three staff members.

Oshana police spokesperson chief inspector Thomas Aiyambo yesterday said the case registered with them is one of theft involving N$3 400.

“There is nothing about trespassing and a blanket,” he said.

One of the accused yesterday referred The Namibian to Frans Indongo Group chief executive Jeremy George.

George did not answer calls or two text messages sent to him yesterday.
