Ish Designs, which offers glamorous ready-to-wear garments to local fashion enthusiasts, has been nominated to represent Namibia at this year’s Africa Fashion Reception (AFR).

The event will be held at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 6 to 9 November.

According to AFR president Lexy Mojo-Eyes, the event is a pan-African initiative organised by Legendary Gold Limited, in association with the Ethiopian ministry of foreign affairs, the African Union, and the embassies of Nigeria, Burundi and Côte d’Ivoire in Ethiopia.

“As always, the AFR will bring together fashion designers, exhibitors, buyers, wholesalers, retailers, models, ambassadors, ministers and media from all over Africa in a celebration of cultural diversity expressed through the artistic fashion discipline, under the proud theme: ‘Africa Is The New Inspiration For Global Fashion,’” says Mojo-Eyes.

According to Ish Designs’ creative director, Julia Kandjimbi, it was an honour to be nominated by the executive board to take part in this year’s Africa fashion business summit, women forum and Africa youth forum as a panellist and speaker, in addition to being a designer.

“This opportunity reflects the board’s confidence in my work and vision,” Kandjimbi says.

She has also expressed her excitement and gratitude for the opportunity.

“Being chosen for this prestigious event is a significant milestone for Ish Designs, a design venture I have been working on independently. This exposure will increase our visibility and lead to exciting new opportunities.”

Kandjimbi says she is still finalising the details of the collection she will present at the event.

“I am keeping the specifics under wraps to heighten anticipation and ensure that the final presentation is both surprising and impactful,” she adds.

However, Kandjimbi says the collection will include 10 pieces.

“While the exact theme is still being developed, I am looking into ideas that will align with the summit’s overall vision, while also highlighting a unique narrative.”

Kandjimbi advises aspiring designers to seize every opportunity with passion and perseverance.

“Be true to your vision, keep pushing your creative boundaries and remember that each challenge is an opportunity for growth and recognition.”
