If you thought women in the Namibian music industry hit a slump in their careers, you thought wrong. In an effort to spruce up our festive season playlists, several stars are working on the promotion of projects, both released and unreleased. The Weekender has all the deets.
You can’t help but be impressed by the standard Sally Boss Madam maintains in both her work ethic and music. The ‘Waalye’ singer dropped the successful ‘My Black’ album back in 2017 and used the last couple of years to promote it while securing gigs all over the country. Now, the powerhouse is releasing her highly anticipated album ‘Lucky Girl’, showing fans a side to her they’ve never seen before. Boss Madam Production is launching the album at Garden Inn tomorrow, 30 November, from 14h00. And guess what? It’s free.
This has certainly been one of Top Cheri’s biggest years yet. The queen of Blvcboxx Entertainment showed up and showed out this year thanks to a revamped style, sexy music videos and a host of hit songs. And the songbird is once again basking in the spotlight as she gears up to drop her second solo album. The first, titled ‘Fertile’, saw the star advertise her new project much like a baby shower. It was a stunning case of marketing. After all, it was her first ‘baby’. Now, the star is getting ‘married’ to the music thanks to ‘The Matrimony’, which is scheduled to drop tomorrow, 30 November. It promises to be epic and we expect nothing less from the talented singer.
The 2017 Namibia Annual Music Awards female artist of the year, Monique English, has no plans of putting down the mic. There’s a growing anticipation for her latest offering ‘Red’, which features Jaleel, Space the Don, Luke Goliath, Lioness and EJB. Launching tonight at 19h30 at El Barrio, the star will be painting Windhoek red with the assistance of a live band. The lead single ‘Red’ has been making waves over the past few weeks and if you haven’t peeped it yet, the video is available online.
When she’s not turning heads at fashion shows, releasing her own line in collaboration with SynEDGY or saving lives in the hospital, she’s making music. This is Lioness, a powerhouse who recently teamed up with Mr Eazi, Boity and rising African stars for the #EmPawa100 project. The rapper, who rose from the underground rap scene, has since dropped several gems like ‘Dreams’ and steamy music videos which had the nation in awe. While fans are still rocking out to her previous project ‘Pride of Cilq’, they can enjoy the singles she’s put out including the freshly released ‘Lovin’, available online.
Etjo from the group Ethnix is steadily making a name for herself. Rocking stages all over the country, including the Goethe Institut’s ‘Night Under the Stars’ and the Windhoek Spring Fiesta stage earlier this year, it’s been a big year for the duo. And Etjo is slowly but surely expanding her portfolio thanks to the collaborations she’s been involved in such as the feature on DJ Kboz’s ‘Maukuhongo’, to which she brought a powerful element. Watch out for this talented singer.
Eccentric, grounded and passionate about music, Reeziana describes herself as an “artist specialising in mainstream music with old school influences”. If you’ve heard her music, you’ll know she loves staying true to her Namibian roots by singing and rapping in Khoekhoegowab, like on ‘One Shot’, which she released earlier this year. She also just released a video for her single ‘Zama Tape’ featuring Micheal Pulse.
Known as the woman with the golden voice, you knew you had a hit on your hands when Teqla, formerly Tequila, hopped on board. Now, the singer is back in business, and this time, she’s got the GMP crew behind her. Venturing into the Afro-pop sphere once again, Teqla has been promoting her new single, ‘Magic’, a catchy song that showcases the songbird’s skills on the mic. We’re glad she’s back on the scene again and we can’t wait to see what solo projects she’s got in store for us next year!
Stefanie Garises, or Römi as she’s better known, had an incredibly productive year in terms of her tech career. She’s been in and out of the country, working at the robot school in the capital city and participating in projects that engage in the future of tech all while promoting women in the industry. Fresh from her short hiatus, the singer jumped straight into the studio and she’s got a fire track with Cassidy Karon titled ‘Chains’, which has been receiving an incredible response recently. She’s also boasts a feature on Sally Boss Madam’s ‘Lucky Girl’.
Lady May Africa is shining in the gospel industry. She may be a newcomer to the scene, but she’s well taken care of under the guidance of gospel star D-Naff, and one of the major songs which shows off the new her is ‘No Longer Slaves’ by Nam Gospel United, released earlier this year. Having found her feet and her voice again, her new album ‘Unbroken’ is ready for purchase countrywide. Call 081 251 3495 for more information.
