Itula tops Khomasdal constituency in Windhoek

Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) leader Panduleni Itula has received 39.9% of votes cast in the presidential election in the Khomasdal constituency in Windhoek.

Itula received 6 211 votes, followed by Swapo presidential candidate Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah with 5 617 votes (35,3%), while Landless People’s Movement (LPM) leader Bernadus Swartbooi is third with 1 562 votes.

Overall, Nandi-Ndaitwah is still in the lead in the presidential election results with 362 940 votes, which is 54.8% of the votes counted, while Itula is in second place with 185 975 votes (28%).

This was announced by Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) chairperson Elsie Nghikembua during a media briefing on the outcome of the elections during Monday night.

Itula has also secured wins in the Swakopmund and Walvis Bay Urban constituencies.

At Swakopmund, Itula received 12 864 votes out of 25 880 votes counted, while at Walvis Bay Urban, he secured 10 181 votes.

Nandi-Ndaitwah followed with 8 551 votes at Swakopmund and 7 385 at Walvis Bay Urban.

The ECN announced results from 21 constituencies for the presidential elections on Monday evening.

The ECN will release more preliminary results from the remaining constituencies on Tuesday.
