Journalist sues for slander

FREELANCE journalist John Grobler is suing Swapo for N$5 million.
Grobler told The Namibian yesterday that his lawyers had already served Swapo Secretary General Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana (first respondent) and the party (second respondent) with the papers on Monday.

Party insiders have confirmed they will defend the lawsuit.Grobler said he is suing for slander and made Ithana the first respondent because she is allegedly abusing the website to fight her own battles. The party’s website carried a discussion about Grobler last week in which they said he had used the pseudonym Jonathan Cobra to demonise Namibia and the country’s first President through articles in the Windhoek Observer newspaper before it was taken over by Paragon. In the discussions people called Grobler a former Koevoet who allegedly committed untold atrocities and said that ‘his hands are soaked in the blood of the Namibian people’.Grobler is one of four people who have featured on the party’s website.
