Julinho Sporting FC promoted to NPL

RUNDU – Rundu-based football club Julinho Sporting are the winners of the 2013/2014 North-east First Division (NEFD) football league.

The team gained promotion to the country’s top flight football league, the Namibia Premier League (NPL), after beating another Rundu-based team, Bingo Football Club (FC) 2-0 in a thrilling match played at the Rundu Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Julinho received a floating trophy and N$50 000 from the league’s sponsor, Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC).

They now join two other Rundu-based teams, Rundu Chiefs and United Stars, who are currently plying their trade in the NPL.

Julinho Sporting FC chairperson Nelson Luis told Nampa after the game that the team’s promotion to the country’s premier league meant that a lot of hard work would be needed for them to up their game.

Luis said he intends to strengthen the team by acquiring a few players in all departments of the squad.

Meanwhile, both Rundu-based NPL teams Rundu Chiefs and United Stars FC lost their home games played at the Rundu Sports Stadium on Saturday.

Relegation candidates Rundu Chiefs lost to Blue Waters 2-0, while United Stars lost to Orlando Pirates 1-0.
