Kaizen Football Academy (KFA) plans another giant-killing act as they take on Premiership-bound Citizens on Wednesday night at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in the quarterfinals of the Bidvest Namibia Cup.
The youthful side based in Khomasdal and competing in the Khomas second division, defeated Premiership outfit Ramblers on penalties after a one-all draw to book their place in the quarterfinals and according to their coach James Britz, they are now eyeing a place in the semifinals.
“We want to go as far as we can in this cup. This is our chance to test our players against the best and so far so good. We played well against Ramblers and taking on Citizens, who have already qualified for the Premier League is another boost for us. We have nothing to lose and all to play for. We plan to go through to the semi-finals but we respect Citizens who are a good side,” he said.
Britz said his team would employ a counter-attacking approach on Wednesday night and will be vigilant at all times.
“We have to be quick and hard in our attacks and defence. Our transitions have to be quick and we must not let them settle on the ball. It worked against Ramblers and we won’t change it. We will keep it tight as well and will try to take our chances at all times,” he said.
Kaizen FA however had their preparations derailed but Britz is satisfied with their state of mind at the moment.
“We had issues with training fields and a lot of injuries but all is history now and the players have recovered in time and are all available to compete and represent the team. We have a very young team with enthusiastic players who know that only they can defeat themselves with fear and too much respect but with determination, hard work and teamwork, we can make it,” he said.
The first quarterfinal match for the 2014 Bidvest Namibia Cup will take place at 20h00 on Wednesday night at the Sam Nujoma Stadium as Kaizen takes on Citizens. Match tickets are going for N$30 each and are available through Computicket at Shoprite, Checkers and at Football House in Katutura.
On Saturday, action will resume at the same venue at 15h00 when United Stars face Tigers; at 17h00 African Stars take on Mountain Rangers and at 19h00 Black Africa will battle it out against Tura Magic.
