Kamanjab open for investors

THE KAMANJAB Village Council is inviting investments as it tries to solve unemployment and eradicate poverty in the underdeveloped Kunene region, said secretary Bianca Miriam Nguaiko.

Presenting the town’s vision titled ‘Kamanjab Village Council, Our 2030 Vision’, Nguaiko said they want to build a Kamanjab Dam front.

The proposed dam front is expected to create 150 jobs for the locals. However, there are no investors on board yet.

She said an investors summit is planned, and every bankable project will be advertised nationally next year.

Nguaiko added that the dam front will be integrated with an already established camping site, and will include a five-star hotel, camping site, backpackers’ accommodation, conference facilities and a wildlife sanctuary.

“I will be coordinating with various commercial farms for the donation of wildlife. A security fence will be erected, and there will be water ponds too,” she enthused.

The council also wants investors for a sunflower and flower project which will create employment for about 100 women. The project will use reclaimed sewage water to grow the flowers, and will consult the City of Windhoek on water reclamation processes.

Nguaiko emphasised that the council also plans to establish a conference and small and medium enterprises’ (SME) trading centre, which will enable entrepreneurs to capitalise on increased traffic on the upgraded Walvis Bay-Henties Bay-Kamanjab road.

“We want to be the logistics hub and warehouse centre that will serve the whole region,” she added.

Other projects outlined in the ‘Kamanjab Village Council, Our 2030 Vision’ are the Kamanjab shopping mall and a hardware outlet to supply building materials for the council’s various projects. One of the council’s projects is to build about 500 houses between 2020 and 2025.

Kamanjab furthermore wants to establish an education village, where institutions of higher learning can be established.
