Rundu re-elected Gabriel Kanyanga as its mayor at a council meeting on Monday.
Kanyanga has been serving as Rundu mayor since 2020.
Four out of the seven councillors in the town council are from Swapo.
Johanna Kakondo was re-elected as deputy mayor.
Another Swapo councillor, Engelbert Muyenga, retained his position as chairperson of the management committee.
Regina Nakare and Reginald Ndara Swapo and the Rundu Concerned Citizens Association, respectively, are the other members of the management committee.
Nicolaus Ndumba and Rosalia Nanghuti from the Rundu Urban Community Association and Independent Patriots for Change, respectively, are ordinary members.
Kanyanga says he accepts the challenge to lead the council with humility together with the other town councillors for one final year.
He calls on the councillors to work together for the good of the town and its residents.
“Challenges will always be there, but as a team we will be able to deliver. I believe that effective governance comes from active community engagement. Therefore, I pledge to foster an open door policy whenever you visit the office of the mayor,” Kanyanga says
