THE Karas under-23 side and two Keetmanshoop second-division teams, Young Beauties and Fedics, proved their mettle in local football when they gave impressive performances against premiership outfit Orlando Pirates at the weekend.
The overconfidence of Orlando Pirates did not carry them through, as they were forced to two draws and a win during their encounters at a jam-packed JF Stephanus stadium at the town. During their first encounter on Friday night against the under-23 side, Pirates drew 3-3 and won 8-7 after a penalty shoot-out.In the other two games, Pirates drew 1-1 against Fedics, while they beat Young Beauties 3-1 in their last match.Rudi ‘Ras’ Swartz opened the score line for the under-23 team after he knitted perfect quick passes with co-striker Clarence ‘Owen’ Andries.Swart again capitalised on the lack of communication between the Pirates goalkeeper and defence when he intercepted a poor pass from the goalkeeper to gave the youngsters a 2-0 lead.Klaas Blom caused havoc in the under-23 defence with his dribbling skills, which contributed to an own goal by Collin Xolile.Poor concentration among Pirates players gave Andries the opportunity to bring the scoreboard to 3-1 at halftime, after a long-range shot.Tommy Horoeb trimmed the lead by capitalising on a failed offside trap by the youngsters.Neville Nanub then equalised for Pirates in the dying minutes of the game to force it into a penalty shootout.During their first encounter on Friday night against the under-23 side, Pirates drew 3-3 and won 8-7 after a penalty shoot-out.In the other two games, Pirates drew 1-1 against Fedics, while they beat Young Beauties 3-1 in their last match.Rudi ‘Ras’ Swartz opened the score line for the under-23 team after he knitted perfect quick passes with co-striker Clarence ‘Owen’ Andries.Swart again capitalised on the lack of communication between the Pirates goalkeeper and defence when he intercepted a poor pass from the goalkeeper to gave the youngsters a 2-0 lead.Klaas Blom caused havoc in the under-23 defence with his dribbling skills, which contributed to an own goal by Collin Xolile.Poor concentration among Pirates players gave Andries the opportunity to bring the scoreboard to 3-1 at halftime, after a long-range shot.Tommy Horoeb trimmed the lead by capitalising on a failed offside trap by the youngsters.Neville Nanub then equalised for Pirates in the dying minutes of the game to force it into a penalty shootout.
