//Karas police team returns to a heroes’ welcome

THE //Karas police sports team on Tuesday arrived to a heroes ‘ welcome at Keetmanshoop after having won the men ‘s football trophy during the Namibian Police ‘s Annual Sports Championships, hosted by Kavango East over the weekend.

The //Karas police men ‘s football team beat their Zambezi counterparts 4 2 in a penalty shootout after regulation and extra time ended in a 2 2 draw.

The champions were received by //Karas regional commander Johannes Tsuseb on the B1 highway, several kilometres outside Keetmanshoop.

A honking and medal waving motorcade then proceeded through the streets of the town, celebrating the team ‘s victory with locals cheering from the roadside.

Praising the sportsmen for bringing back the soccer trophy to //Karas, Tsuseb said hard work and commitment contributed to the team ‘s victory.

“We are small in endurance, but mind wise we think, therefore we have scooped the trophy, ” the visibly delighted police chief noted.

He thanked the sponsors for their contributions towards the team, as well as the public who rallied their support behind them, pledging that police in //Karas will continue to serve the community well.

“We ‘re not only doing policing, we are also fit, ” he added on a lighter note.

Thanking the participants for having maintained discipline during the games, Tsuseb said “I ‘m speechless, you make //Karas proud “.

“The trophy has come home, and must remain here for the next years, ” he added.
