Swapo member of parliament Philipus Katamelo was elected as deputy speaker of the 8th parliament on Thursday.
Katamelo received 54 votes compared to Popular Democratic Movement leader McHenry Venaani’s 41 votes.
“We must have order and principles and we must serve with commitment to the masses who voted for us,” he said.
He replaces outgoing deputy speaker Loide Kasinga.
Ninety-five votes were casted out of 110 printed ballot papers and 15 ballots were not utalised.
The 8th parliament will resume next week Tuesday.
