The former president of the DTA of Namibia, Katuutire Kaura, is back.
The veteran politician’s return comes after the DTA, which had previously dismissed him from the party and sought to replace him in the National Assembly, failed to contest the court case which Kaura filed against the decision.
DTA had dismissed Kaura alleging that he was causing divisions within the party and bringing it into disrepute. As punishment, the party recalled Kaura and terminated his membership.
DTA president McHenry Venaani yesterday said the decision to renounce all previous decisions concerning Kaura’s position in the party was a result of failure by the party’s lawyers’ to advise on the correct legal procedures.
“The DTA’s legal representatives have fundamentally failed to provide the party with adequate legal counsel on technical matters,” stated Venaani.
Speaking to The Namibian yesterday, in the comfort of his Pionierspark home, Kaura said he is still in the process of digesting the news that he is now officially back.
“I’m still digesting this news, although I [have been] expecting it since Monday. I have mentioned before that my blood is fused with the DTA and thus I will remain a member always. No one can take that away from me,” he said.
Kaura said his legal advisors had communicated to him that he might get back his position since the party’s legal representatives had said DTA had no case to base its argument.
Kaura, who has been a member of parliament for for 24 years, said the decision to take him back is for the sake of the party.
“This experience taught me that anything is possible,” said Kaura, adding that he is looking forward to attending Parliament.
