Kavango poisoning death toll increases to 13

The death toll from a suspected poisoning at a village in the Kavango East region has increased to 13.

This morning, nine people were reported to have died from suspected poisoning after they had eaten porridge made with mahangu at Kayova, a village in Kavango East.

The death toll from the suspected poisoning has now increased to thirteen people, the acting regional health director in Kavango East, Woitha John Kapumburu, has confirmed to The Namibian.

It is alleged that on Saturday, family members ranging in age from two to 33 years consumed porridge made from flour with an additive of dried pounded fermented sediment from a homemade beverage locally known as ‘mundevere’.

This is a developing story.
