Pupils from across the Khomas region gathered at the Suiderhof Primary School hall to participate in the Khomas Regional Social Science Quiz last week.
The platform was meant to celebrate knowledge, curiosity, and the importance of understanding the world in which pupils live.
Suiderhof principal Alna Similo says social studies is not just a subject but a gateway to understanding the forces that shape societies, history and Namibia’s diverse cultures.
She says it teaches young people to be informed and be active citizens in a rapidly changing world.
“This discipline encourages pupils to ask questions, think critically, and explore different perspectives,” Similo says.
She says her aspiration for the future of the quiz is that it grows to become a national event with the collaboration of potential stakeholders.
Encouraging students at the occasion, Khomas education inspector Milton ya Otto said: “Today, we are raising awareness of the world around us. Tomorrow, we will be designing and building amazing places in the world.”
He said social science education in Namibia offers numerous career opportunities and is essential to the curriculum.
According to Ya Otto, this quiz will significantly contribute to academic improvement and create a sense of inclusivity among pupils.
He said the quiz focuses on the syllabus and provides “a fun way for pupils to study and master the content, encouraging competition and excitement for learning”.
