SECURITY guards working for Khomas Security have decided to return to work, but only after they have received a part of their outstanding salaries.
They have not been guarding the premises of the Ministry of Health for the whole of yesterday and vowed to continue with the action, if not paid by 10h00 today. The Ministry had not paid Khomas Security resulting in the company not meeting its salary obligation to its employees.Yesterday, the Ministry gave the company N$48 000 while a further N$13 000 will be handed over today. The money is for services provided in August. The company has yet to bill the ministry with an amount of around N$320 000 for services rendered for September. The N$61 000 will not be enough to pay all the security officers, according to the company’s owner, Siegfried Katjatenja. However, Health Permanent Secretary Kahijoro Kahuure gave Katjatenja a letter which he can use as a guarantee for a bank overdraft to get more money to pay the staff.Likius Vilho, Namibia Transport and Allied Workers Union (Natau) regional co-ordinator, said the security officers will only return to work once they have received their wages.”There will be no work until we have received the money,” he told the security guards in Katjatenja’s presence.
