Khorixas to tackle waste management with new tipper truck

The Khorixas Town Council is in the process of acquiring a tipper truck to help address waste management.

Town council head of maintenance Rala //Gowaseb told Nampa on Monday there are plans to use the 2024 financial year budget to purchase a tipper truck.

The vehicle will play a crucial role in ensuring effective waste management at the town.

“Three months ago we cleaned almost the entire town at a cost of more than N$100 000. However, the residents are not taking responsibility for their waste, which heavily impacts the town’s cleanliness,” said //Gowaseb.

He emphasised the council’s commitment to tackling the issue and noted that a budget allocation of N$1.5 million will be used to purchase the truck.

The necessary quotations have already been submitted to the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises, and the payment process is underway, he said.

In his message to the people of Khorixas, //Gowaseb urged residents to adopt the theme ‘My Waste, My Responsibility’.

He stressed that maintaining clean property is not only essential for a healthier environment, but also helps prevent diseases.

“When you look at people’s yards, they are either raking out all the sand or neglecting to clean up papers, leaves and other debris. We need to be responsible for our own waste.”

The council is hopeful that the new measures will foster a sense of accountability among residents, while improving the overall cleanliness and appeal of Khorixas.
