Khumub brothers to contest Guinas councillor position

The brothers Fransiscus and Moses Khumub are the only two candidates to contest in the Oshikoto region’s Guinas constituency by-election on 17 January.

Fransiscus is a Landless People’s Movement member, and Moses a Swapo member.

Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) returning officer for the Guinas constituency Sion Shikufinde on Friday said there are no independent candidates.

Shikufinde said the ECN is well prepared as Guinas is a small constituency, with a population of 8 578 people and 4 337 registered voters.

“We have five fixed polling and four mobile polling stations and nine teams,” he said.

The fixed polling stations are at Oshivelo Police Station, Tsintsabis Primary School, Namutoni Gate, farm Oshivelo and Ondera resettlement farm, and will operate from 07h00 to 21h00.

Shikufinde said the printing of ballot papers will take place on 9 January in Windhoek and will be delivered to Tsumeb the next day.

He urged the Guinas community to participate in the by-election.

The by-election was necessitated by the death of former Guinas constituency councillor Elias Martinus on 21 October 2024 after a short illness at Tsumeb.
