Kidnapping attempt reported at Oshakati school

OSHAKATI West Primary School principal, Aila Kavungo, has warned parents to be extra vigilant after an attempted kidnapping at the school yesterday.

In her statement issued today, Kavungo explained that a stranger visited the school yesterday to pick a child under the pretext that the child’s parent had given authority.

She confirmed her letter to today and said this is the first time such an incident took place.

“The girl became suspicious and informed her teacher who then confirmed with the parent. The mother denied sending any person to pick up her daughter,” Kavungo said.

She said linking the incident to the current situation in the country, the school is warning parents that kidnapping is real and that they must take safety precautions for children.

Kavungo added that children should be assertive at all times, avoid talking to strangers and walk in groups.

The principal also urged parents to pick up children at schools on time.

“The street was and will never be safe for our children. We should be on the look out for strangers around our environment and report any suspicious moves to the nearest police station,” Kavungo said.
