Kombat mine heads for profit with 900t concentrate

KOMBAT copper mine in Namibia produced 901 tonnes of concentrate in the month of October at a grade of 29,2% copper and 241 grams (g) of silver per tonne (t) of ore processed.

This was said by the chief executive and president of Canada-based owners Trigon Metals Inc, Jed Richardson, in a statement issued on Monday.

“In a month that saw the plant reach commercial production and our first concentrate sales, concentrate production topped expectations.

“We are on track to record an operating profit on October’s production and are very pleased with the efforts of the team and the performance of the mine and mill,” Richardson said.

According to the statement, the mill throughput for the month of October was 28 771 tonnes of ore which produced 901t of copper concentrate with 29,2% copper grade.

According to Richardson, the copper recovery was 88% in addition to silver grade concentrate of 241 g/t of ore.

Richardson added that stockpiles on the run-of-mine pad now total 27 000 tonnes of ore averaging close to 1,2% copper, providing approximately one month’s supply of ore feed to the mill.

Trigon operations vice president and Kombat mine manager Fanie Müller said: “The mill is performing very well. This level of efficiency on our starter feed puts us in an excellent position as we start to feed our target grades.”

Recently, the company obtained US$8,9 million in financing from Epiroc Financial Solutions to purchase underground mining equipment to restart operations at the Kombat mine.

Trigon officially restarted production at Kombat Mine with the first blast on 16 May this year.

Trigon Metals is a publicly traded Canadian exploration and development company with core operations centred on copper and silver holdings in mine-friendly African jurisdictions.

The company currently operates in Namibia and Morocco.

In Namibia, Trigon holds an 80% interest in five mining licences in the Otavi Mountainlands, an area widely recognised for its high-grade copper deposits, with a focus on exploration and redevelopment of the previously producing Kombat mine, situated between the towns of Otavi and Grootfontein.

Renowned deals fixer and middleman Knowledge Katti is Trigon’s Namibian partner at Kombat Mine.

In Morocco, the company holds the Silver Hill and Addana projects, which are highly prospective for copper and silver exploration.
