Kuku Nkandanga back with a bang

Kuku Nkandanga back with a bang

• PINEHAS NAKAZIKO

THE most celebrated northern Shambo musician, Kuku Nkandanga, is back with new music after taking a breather.

The album, which talks about his music journey over the decades, is dedicated to the heroines of the Ondonga people for their bravery back in the days, he says.

The album, which talks about his music journey over the decades, is dedicated to the heroines of the Ondonga people for their bravery back in the days, he says.

On the album, Kuku Nkandanga worked with various artists such as Kaboy Kamakili, Mbuku, Fiston, and Mnali.

The album was recorded, mixed and mastered in the newly established studio Elly Moo Production.

Andrew on the Beat, Fiston, Rodriguez and Chanu produced the entire album.

According to Kuku Nkandanga, the difference between his new album and previous ones is the quality and standard of the new music he came up with.

“We have also worked with the new artist Kaboy Kamakili to bring unity in the industry and a fresh taste to Shambo music,” says Kuku Nkandanga.

Currently, a music video of the song ‘Omuyenda’, featuring Mbuku, taken from the album is enjoying massive views on YouTube.

The video was shot by Radio Media Group at Othithiya Recreational Centre in Omuthiya.

Kuku Nkandanga recorded his first album in 2009 titled ‘Faasuluka’. He sold almost 10 000 copies of this album.

“We have been dropping albums ever since, selling here and there. From 2013, CDs were not selling anymore until today,” says Kuku Nkandanga, adding that it is now hard for an artist to sell CDs as people are making copies and technology is advancing.

“So, we have to come up with an alternative,” says Kuku Nkandanga.

He says artists need to unite in the music industry, and private companies must consider them whenever there are events.

“Namibians should support all artists, especially the upcoming ones, while radio and television should play our music more to promote local talent.”
