Ladies and gentlemen: SHE

YOU need to stop what you’re doing, and pay attention to singer Harriet Tjipueja.

Her stage name is ‘SHE’, which stands for ‘see her empowered’, in line with what she sings about in English and her mother tongue, Otjiherero.

She is a fabulous live singer and also really knows how to lay it down in the studio and deliver sensual RnB tunes that will have you doing a double take.

This crooner is gaining traction with music lovers, having been featured in numerous live shows, at venues like the former Warehouse Theatre (in shows like Open Mic or The Gathering) or the Kalahari Coffee and Jazz Café.

“I’ve been performing since the age of 10. I did singing competitions, talent shows, and the school choir,” she says.

The Windhoek-based artist says RnB and soul have always been a part of her, and she is inspired by Marvin Gaye, Toni Braxton, Destiny’s Child, and Floetry.

Tjipueja has also worked with artists, such as duo Paradox, rapper JBlack, producer Devitchi, lyricist Raffy and Waters, who is her brother.

She describes her vocals as honeyed and soulful, and says her motivation is to heal her audience.

If you listen to songs like ‘Frustration’ and ‘Hesitation’, available on her SoundCloud, you will immediately take notice of the uniqueness of her sound.

“’Frustration’ is a women’s anthem. It highlights the importance of self-worth and acknowledging one’s magic,” Tjipueja says.

“I wrote ‘Frustration’ coming from a place of hurt, disappointment, loneliness and expectations.”

Despite the pandemic, she seems to be showing her resilience.

“I’m really hoping to release an EP this year. I want my music to be a form of healing, and I want to encourage my fellow queens to embrace their power and truth,” she says.
