Two Windhoek-based lawyers have been released on bail after they were arrested on Friday for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and refusing to provide blood samples for testing, while one is facing a charge of bribery as well.

Acting Khomas regional police commander Chrispin Mubebo confirmed the arrests on Sunday.

Mubebo said one of the lawyers had allegedly attempted to bribe a police officer with N$10 000.

“One lawyer was charged for drunken driving and refusing to give a blood sample for testing, as well as charged with bribery. He was given bail of N$8 000,” Mubebo reported.

He added that the other lawyer has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and failing to give a blood sample. He has been released on bail in an amount of N$5 000, Mubebo said.

The two lawyers, whose identities have not been revealed, are expected to appear in court on Monday.
