The Let’s Read project donated seven bound sets comprising the July editions of The Namibian to schools in and around Windhoek on Thursday.

According to Tilling, the initiative gives pupils the opportunity to read copies of the newspaper and utilise the information for school projects.

Donations were made to the following schools:

  1. •Goreangab Junior Secondary School (Goreangab)
  2. •Groot-Aub Junior Secondary School (Groot Aub)
  3. •Havana Project Secondary School (Havana)
  4. •Khomastura High School (Khomasdal)
  5. •St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic High School (Döbra)
  6. •Eros Girls’ School (Eros)
  7. •Chairman Mao Zedong High School (Otjomuise)

A bound set comprises a full month’s editions of The Namibian, with each participating school receiving one bound set.

The project will also help gather and deliver additional reading materials to schools in need, particularly rural schools.

The Let’s Read project aims to promote literacy and a reading culture among Namibia’s youth. It also aims to assist vulnerable communities to access reading materials.

The Namibian’s chief operating officer Mark Kissler emphasised the importance of reading and said those in the media have first-hand experience of how important literacy is.
