A girl (11) died after she was struck by lightning while collecting berries with her friends at Etundu village in the Okanguati area. Her friends, aged between 10 and 13, were injured.
Kunene crime coordinator deputy commissioner Paavo Iyambo confirmed that the incident happened on Saturday at around 19h00.
The four children who were injured were taken to the Okanguati Health Centre, while the deceased’s body was taken to the Opuwo mortuary.
In another lightning incident on Saturday, Kowoina Musupi (18), who is five months pregnant, was struck by lightning at around 20h30 at Ovituambu village in the Okanguati area.
Musupi survived and is in a stable condition at the Okanguati Health Centre, under observation.
