Lioness Drops ‘Wish You Were Here’ Today

Rapper and medical intern Dr Latoya Mwoombola, known affectionately as Lioness, has officially dropped her album ‘Wish You Were Here’ today.

She teased fans with sneak peeks in the form of three brand spanking new singles, including a love song with the same title as the album.

The single, uploaded to her social media through EmPawa Africa, is soft and sensual, and speaks of a deep longing for someone special. With Afro-beat elements and a gentle singing and rapping style, the song carries special meaning.

“’Wish You Were Here’ is a song in which I reminisce about a lover. Wherever you go you think of them and wish you could experience every moment with them,” says the artist.

The two other songs which have also been released and are currently racking up views on EmPawa’s YouTube pages are ‘Loving’ and ‘Last Night’ – a cool dancehall song featuring Dizzo and Young DLC.

The lyricist says fans can expect the new album to sound different to previous ones as the main theme is love, but also because of how much more demanding her life outside of music has become.

“This album took double the amount of time it took to complete the last project. Also starting my job officially as a medical intern there was so much pressure and I was left with no time. It feels like I’ve accomplished something major,” Mwoombola said.

The artist said she was grateful for her Namibian Annual Music Award nominations for best hip-hop album for her last album, and best music video for her hit single ‘Tala’.

“I am very fortunate. Finally, the two categories that I best feel describe my artistry. It feels amazing.”

With ‘Wish You Were Here’ officially available on all online platforms today, Lioness says she’ll be doing her best to get the music to the people. She said once local trade is moving again, they will be able to import physical copies.

Mwoombola did not share much about her future plans, but promised the visuals released for the new album would be of in ternational standard and performances would always be there for fans.

“The public is very open to live Instagram performances,” she said, hinting at possible online shows coming.
